During the first 20 days of May, neighbors submitted 45 odor complaints, which actually occurred on just 10 days. This is not due to an improvement at the landfill but rather because the wind blows away from Northville approximately half of the time. Unfortunately, the heavy truck traffic clogs our roads no matter which way the wind blows.
Almost four years ago, the Attorney General sued Arbor Hills, and we were promised the odors would stop, but this hasn’t materialized. Instead of showing you charts describing the odor trends, let’s read a small sample the complaints.
“All Mother’s Day guests went home early due to strong odor from landfill.”
“A friend asked if they could use my property for a wedding reception. I said yes but had to warn them about the potential that the "smell from the dump" could ruin a beautiful day.”
“The smell is terrible. I pray it is not like this all summer. I do not want to have anyone over for fear of garbage smell.”
“Smelled garbage last night when having an outdoor movie with my family and some neighborhood kiddos.”
The Odors are Real, and the Families Impacted are Very Real.
