This past weekend, beginning on Saturday afternoon, several residents used The Conservancy Initiative’s Odor Reporting system to report an unusual vibration or noise causing vibration in their homes and even rattling windows. Here are excerpts from just a few of the vibration reports we received.
“Not an odor tonight, but I believe there is a very low frequency noise coming from the landfill that is causing vibrations on the second floor of my house. This is most noticeable by holding my hand on the window facing the landfill or even laying in my bed.
Not an odor issue but it is going on at the dump? My house windows are shaking and the air is pulsing outside.
No odor, but a sound nuisance!!! Some type of deep noise/frequency is causing my front windows to vibrate. It is definitely something coming from the landfill, and this has happened before?”
There were also reports of this strange vibration on social media sites; Facebook, and NextDoor in both the Steeple Chase and Northville Ridge neighborhoods.
The Conservancy Initiative has contacted both the Air Quality and Materials Management Division Inspectors from EGLE to ask them to look into the reported vibrations to see if the landfill is the source and what can be done to eliminate the vibration. We have also reached out to the Arbor Hills Management team from GFL and asked them if they are aware of any activities which may be causing the vibration.
If the vibration issues continue, we ask that residents use The Conservancy Initiative Odor Report to report the issue. The Odor Report is automatically distributed to Arbor Hills Management, EGLE, Northville Township, etc. When using the Odor Report to report issues other than odor, please clearly declare “Not an odor report” in the comments section.
Thank you to everyone who made reports the past couple of days. Issues that are not reported never stand a chance of being corrected. We will use our website to update the community on any information we receive from EGLE or GFL.
