Speak at MMP Committee Meetings
A NEW LANDFILL will need approval from the MMP Committee before construction. Stopping the NEW LANDFILL through the MMP Committee may be our only option.
The MMP Committee has not yet discussed the NEW LANDFILL proposal, but public comments are permitted at every meeting.
Passionate, respectful input from residents living near the existing landfill can influence committee members.
Meetings are held at 10 AM on the second Wednesday of each month at:
Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center
Superior Room
4135 Washtenaw Ave
Ann Arbor, MI 48108
Comment at Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners
Public comments at these meetings can be powerful, as there is a large audience. The Board has final approval of the MMP committee's recommendations.
Washtenaw County and especially Ann Arbor are proud to be environmental leaders. Examples include: year-round food waste curbside pickup and seasonal gas-blower bans.
Ask Commissioners to continue to be environmental leaders - Why does an environmentally friendly Washtenaw County wish to host a Canadian-owned landfill?
Meetings: First and third Wednesdays @ 7 PM
Board Room
220 N Main Street
Ann Arbor
Note: Comments are allowed at “Working Session” meetings, but limited to 1 minute. Please attend “Regular Session” meetings.
Attend the upcoming Town Hall
tentatively schedule for January 12th at Northville High School
A Town Hall is being planned for mid-January at Northville High School auditorium (45700 Six Mile Road, Northville)
We have moved the Town Hall to the High School to accommodate the large expected crowd.
Yard signs and brochures will be available to aid community advocacy.
The exact date and details will be announced soon.
Participate in MMP Public Participation Meetings
The MMP Committee will hold a series of “Public Participation” Meetings to present the proposed changes to waste and recycling practices, including a NEW LANDFILL proposal.
Round One: Public meetings to discuss improving recycling practices will take place in January. The likely dates are January 20 – 22. The landfill won’t be addressed officially, but comments are encouraged.
Round Two: Before the MMP plan is finalized, a second set of public meetings will specifically address the landfill proposal. These are likely during the week of March 23, 2026; details to follow.
Contact Elected Officials
Elected Officials here from The Conservancy Initiative regularly. Widespread community comments are needed to influence our elected officials.
Direct engagement—calls, emails, and letters—has a significant impact, as officials consistently monitor community feedback.
Attend local town halls and coffee hours hosted by elected officials; resources for contacting officials and sample letters are on our website.
Speak with Local Reporters
The Conservancy Initiative and local leaders will be working hard to increase visibility of the NEW LANDFILL issue.
If contacted, please speak with local reporters. Media coverage is essential to stopping the NEW LANDFILL.
